Grace comes Sixth in the final at her first Commonwealth Games

  • Date: 02/11/2010

Grace had a superb introduction to the Commonwealth Games. She competed in the three-metre springboard with some solid dives, qualifying for the final round in 7th position. The youngest member of Team Scotland at 14, and up against some highly talented and more experienced divers, Grace executed each of her five dives with precision and flair finishing 6th overall in the final competition. In doing so she again broke her personal best (276.3 points) establishing a new record of 303.15 points. The first time a GB junior has scored more than 300 points. A fantastic result!

“The prelim was over in a flash and before I knew it I was whizzed back to the village for a short rest before my final. First dive done, I was off to a good start. I stayed totally focused on my next dive. After the third dive, I had really settled in to the event and relaxed for my last two dives. When it came to my final dive, I took one last deep breath before I finally went for it!”

Grace is only just back from the Commonwealth Games and has described the event as “one of the best experiences I have had this year”.

The next few months will see Grace focusing on learning new, more difficult dives in order for her to earn more points.
