TMI Sponsors Award for Innovation and Independent Thinking

TMI Sponsors Award for Innovation and Independent Thinking

Thomas Miller Investment is sponsoring the “Award for Innovation and Independent Thinking” at this year’s Isle of Man Newspapers’ Awards for Excellence. Laura Bellwood, Marketing Manager, explains why the qualities this award celebrates are of fundamental importance to the firm.

“As a company operating in the competitive area of discretionary investment management services, innovation is highly  important for us in order to help us  stand out from our peers and provide an exceptional service for our clients,” says Laura.

She goes on to explain that Thomas Miller Investment has recently completed a two-year major systems upgrade designed to optimise their portfolio management and client reporting capabilities.

Thomas Miller has a history going back 125 years when the original founders of the business were celebrated innovators. Drawing on that heritage, they are determined to create a dynamic investment company that’s geared to today’s investment market and client requirements; and be clear and transparent in everything they do.

All of this needs innovative and independent thought as Tom Richards, Director and Head of Private Investment Management (Offshore), explains:

‘We feel that our team-based approach is one of our key strengths and we value and encourage input from staff at all levels. However, within any team-based approach we must work hard to nurture independent thought in how we approach our business. Ours is a competitive world, and we must develop and reward innovative thinking whether it be in how we deal with the investment markets, portfolio construction or client service and reporting.”

“Sometimes the status quo is exactly the right direction of travel. However, every now and again we must stop to examine what we do and ask ourselves ‘how can we look at this from a different angle?’; and ‘what can we do to improve what we offer to our clients?’ We shouldn’t forget that today’s independent thought can often become tomorrow’s innovative industry leader.”

Laura commented that Thomas Miller Investment’s clients too are considered very much as individuals. “ ’Individuality is not an attribute, it is a defining fundamental’ is one of our guiding principles; and we aim to understand every client and their individual circumstances to give us the best chance to help them achieve their investment objectives.”

Tom concluded with the note that “we are delighted to again sponsor the Awards for Excellence and are looking forward to a fantastic evening.”
