The financial health of many charities is more exposed to global influences than is generally understood. The sharp fall in equity markets in February of this year served as a useful case in point. The cause was attributed to an event in China but the repercussions were felt in all major financial markets.
Readers old enough to remember the 1970s will therefore be particularly concerned when they hear murmurings of the threat of stagflation in the US economy, and will understandably worry about the impact it might have on the finances of their charity.
